New Georgia VA Memorial Cemetery Funding Approved

WASHINGTON D.C. — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is awarding a grant of $2,436,388 for 100 percent of allowable costs associated with the expansion of the Georgia Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia (FAI: cemetery, GA-15-06). The State of Georgia submitted a formal Application for Federal Assistance for the project on April 27, 2017.

The grant will fund construction of the 1,520 pre-placed crypts, 320 columbium niches, roadways, landscaping, irrigation and supporting infrastructure. The project will develop approximately 15 acres and serve 105.326 Veterans and eligible family members.

The closest cemetery is VA’s Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, which is approximately 146 miles away. The closest grant funded cemetery is Georgia Veterans’ Memorial Cemetary in Glenville, Georgia, which is approximately 138 miles away.

The Memorandum of Agreement is being sent to Mr. Ernie Simons. Director, Health & Memorials Division, Georgia Department of Veterans Service, the official representative of the State for this federally assisted project.
