Serving Two Hundred and Thirty Four Years

From the Office of the Commander
Edward L. Richards

 Commander's September 2010 Newsletter

The CVVC August meeting was well attended on Saturday 28 August. The After Action Report will be posted as soon as the post ITO's can get to it.

The Department SEC is on 18-19 September 2010 at Perry, Georgia. If any post member would like to attend, please contact the Post Commander or Post Adjutant.

Post 9 is developing a marketing plan. The plan will include ways and means to market AMVETS and AMVETS Post 9 in particular.

The Georgia Senate, Veterans, Military & Homeland Security Committee passes HB-674 favorably out of committee. However, the Senate Rules Chairman failed to place the bill on the senate calendar for action by the full senate. AMVETS Post 9 thanks Senator John Douglas for his efforts in getting passage of HB-674. Of course the House Members who sponsored and voted for HB-674 deserve our thanks for support of veterans.

The Ledger-Enquirer Sound Off has had several comments about the care and or treatment of our veterans at some local AL/GA VA Clinics and Hospitals. As Commander of Post 9 and user of our local VA facilities, I have not witnessed any misconduct on the part of VA staff against veterans. However, this is not to say there is not any. If any veteran has a valid complaint against the VA regarding their care and treatment AMVETS wants to know about it. Please contact any AMVETS Post in your area and ask to speak to the Post Commander. In the Chattahoochee Valley of AL and GA. In GA please contact Commander Edward L. Richards at 706/507/0397 or 706/392/6666 or e-mail: commander@amvetsga9.org In AL please contact: Commander Gerald L. Webber at 334/614/4242 or e-mail: commanderamvetspost57@gmail.com When making a claim of abuse, please make sure to include the names, titles of all VA staff involved with your issue and the names of any witnesses. Include all contact information for witnesses, if known. All complaints are treated as confidential and will not be divulged to anyone without the need to know. AMVETS Post 9 and AL Post 57 will soon have an online complaint form available for veterans to complete. As veterans, you may rest assured that  AMVETS will protect your rights and benefits to the fullest extent possible under the law. If you are not already an AMVETS member, please join and help protect your rights and benefits that you have earned by your service in the defense of our great country. Come to one of our Post meetings and learn about how AMVETS can help you.

POST SERVICE FUND  DRIVE:

Post 9 will be on Fort Benning the week-end of July 16-17, 2010 at the Main PX. If you would like to volunteer a couple hours to man a table, please call the Post at 707/507/0397 or 706/392/6666 Office of the Commander . Email: commander@amavetsga9.org

The Post is always in need of volunteers to accomplish its mission of providing programs and services to veterans and their dependents. If you have some free time, please come and join your fellow AMVETS in this effort. You can contact the Commander@amvetsga9.org or the Adjutant@amvetsga9.org

Please, show our sponsors listed on our Post site that we appreciate their support of our veterans, by patronizing them with your business. Without the support of our sponsors, AMVETS Post 9 could not deliver the services that veterans depend on.  If you do not see a sponsor listed, please contact the Post for information.
